Visually this scene presents the Union jack, a sophisticated power symbol (with layers) and as such it is used by the British Movement. I took the eight triangles within the structure of the flag and let these shapes rotate in many different colours. The national and multi-national identity come into conflict in front of the portrait of the young people. The struggle for alliance is loudly echoed in the soundtrack. Group leaders express fears of acting against their convictions, boys feared they’d be thrown out/dismissed, where girls fear being singled out as ‘slags’ or left bored. – W.T.
