‘This is the most minimal work I ever made. It consists of 8 minutes of watching my sone Bruno Muellbauer sleep… The child breathes and sucks an imaginary breast, then sighs and breathes regularly again. At one point he wakes and cries out, then falls asleep once more sucking on his dream breast. I wanted to tell a story of sorts but without words. I created a simple but precise structure and the work is as much about the aesthetic dimension, the subtle progression of images and sounds, as it is a parable of the maternal gaze.’ – C.E.
