Ex Library, 2006 (digitised 2019).

Filmed over approximately 18 months from my 14th floor flat, observing a crane and its operator. The filming took place from 2004 to 2006 when a local library was being demolished to make way for a block of flats for “essential workers”. The block was ‘shoe-horned’ in to a site within Pleydell council estate (Islington). The crane operator climbed the ladder to his cab at around 8:30am every day. Filmed using a single frame technique but never mechanical time lapse. The film was written about favourably by Nicky Hamlyn: Nicky Hamlyn on Ex-Library – William English
