“A woman applies make-up in an attempt to change her appearance to more closely resemble an ideal of feminine beauty. As the camera closes in, the ideological and commercial images that determine her goal are literally jig-sawed over her face. She becomes a single element among a conglomerate of media images and then is entirely effaced. An ironical soundtrack further emphasises the artificiality of these constructions.”Stuart Marshall.Serpentine Show Notes. 1982
