The film reflects upon the insulting, banal, threatening and humorous language used between heterosexual couples when they are depicted as being in conflict. In the first part lip synched exchanges between a man and a woman are filmed in opposing close-ups focusing on their lips and profile. In the second part the camera moves more freely, depicting the couple and parts of their domestic environment, still shot quite tightly and in varying degrees of focus. The couples voices have become their own, but the exchanges have become intensified, erratic and repetitive, occasionally interrupted by white noise and a dark screen. In the third part it becomes apparent the couple are stood in a theatrical set which has been dressed as a living room. They recite isolated lines from a script whilst the camera circles the set.
