Shot between July and September 2017 the film is a collaborative portrait of the village arts community Jatiwangi Art Factory (JaF) in West Java, Indonesia. Playing with synch sound and in-camera editing, the film draws on a large cast of local collaborators and performers from school children to factory workers, bodybuilders to ceramic musicians. For each film roll a new cast was assembled. Working with members of JaF the project was developing as part of film making/film viewing workshop and founding of the Jatiwangi Sinemathek. Charting transformations and rebuilding of the community, the film proposes an open form to experience JaF’s practice and their dedication to what they called the ‘kajian kehidupan lokal/discourses on local rural life’.Produced under the auspices of the West Java West Yorkshire Cooperative Movement (WJWYCM) a platform for exchange and collaboration between communities around the Jatiwangi art Factory (JaF) and Pavilion in West Yorkshire working across moving image, textiles, ceramics, poetry, sound and music. Founded by George Clark, Ismal Muntaha, Will Rose and Bunga Saigian.
