On the occasion of a solo exhibition at the Galerie Ivon Lambert in Paris, David Lamelas once again creates a work where the point of departure is the “site” itself. This work is based on a conversation with French writer Marguerite Duras . The latter is filmed in the calm atmosphere of her country house, in conversation with Argentinean writer Raúl Escari , who is heard, but is always off screen. Carried out in conventional documentary style, the exhibition combines the interview with ten photographs and ten panels with text. The discontinuity introduced by the photos and texts are juxtaposed with the film’s continuity. Here Lamelas extends his idea of “site” as the point of departure for the work, referring neither to the architecture nor the social context, but instead shows Marguerite Duras as a representation of a specific, localized form of cultural practice.
