In Ever Happen four or five cliched or curious Americanisms are repeated:
“Im out of here”
“Why dya think your marriage just died on ya ?”
The effect is to produce a slightly hypnotic trance-like effect as something that is very familiar is repeated like the chorus of a song. NYPD Blue is a very fast paced original programme – here it is slowed down and turned into a mantra. Next using the brackets of a well orchestrated soundtrack, composed of clapping and US rock audience participation, it is as if these sections of NYPD Blue are on stage in some big stadium and people are just screaming and clapping as each phrase comes live on stage – regardless of how many times they have seen it before. It is like a drug with these people. – G.B.
