In a public film-shoot in museum Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam), Paul Elstak, icon of the gabber hardcore scene and hiphop dj Mr Wix were challenged to play out their conflicting positions in music. Gabber/hardcore and hiphop are two musical styles, which represent diverse lifestyles and distinct positions within the urban space. Rotterdam is a city full of population tension. Gabber/hardcore developed in the 90’s as an expression of a neglected white working class youth. Hiphop on the other hand has a very strong presence in the large black community of the city. Without wishing to create a harmony of the various forms, a soundtrack of friction and connection was created.
