People appear and disappear into and out of billowing clouds of steam. Any identifying architectural features, signifiers of place or views to a context beyond the frame have been edited out. The space is liminal and otherworldly, yet, the people are obviously tourists and very much of this world. The imaginary constantly slips in significance between the banal, the archetypal and the dream-like. The fascination of the work lies in the tension between our knowledge of the ordinariness of the scene and this scene and this sense of otherness rendered in the video.
