New Dream Machine Project II is the latest installment in a trilogy of films documenting concerts performed in front of the New Dream Machine Project (2011), a large-scale kinetic light sculpture. The latter was inspired by Brion Gysin’s prototype ‘Dream Machine’, created in the 1960s during his time in Morocco, which he designed to emit hypnotic light waves to the audience at a frequency that induces a transcendental meditative state. This iteration features a live performance by the experimental musical group Praed in collaboration with the Paris-based soprano and sax player Stephane Rives and electric guitar player Sharif Sehnaoui. Formed in 2006 by Swiss musician Paed Conca and Lebanese collection/artists/musician Raed Yassin, the Praed duo experiments with a complex and vast terrain of sonic/musical influences and geographies.New Dream Machine Project II proposes a new nodal point for a nexus of interacting networks spanning London, Beirut and Paris. This extends and develops those established across the MENA region during the first project, exploring social and creative links within the conception and production of contemporary art, historically remapping a global narrative of the evolution of contemporary practices and ideas. New Dream Machine Project (2011), featured performances by acclaimed Bedouin: Master Musicians of Jajouka and Duke Garwood, and was filmed at the Cinematheque de Tanger.
