Motorway is one of the most visually dynamic and exciting tapes of recent years. It uses highly sophisticated keying and multi-layering effects to offer the viewer the chance to experience a 400 mile an hour virtual reality journey along the motorways of Europe, not as they are, but rich in dazzling computer-generated colours under an exploding sky. It is inspired by Snow’s love of driving long distances at high speed, particularly when tired and likely to have hallucinations of flying saucers. Exhaustion gives his perceptions a paranoid edge – as George Snow writes, ‘Other drivers are really aliens in disguise and articulated lorries are loaded with sinister weapons that threaten my very existence.’ The high speed soundtrack is by the Art of Noise.
