Using variable durations, split screens, tilts, pans, zooms and other devices, Ken Rudolph has taken the highlights of Western Art – over 2000 paintings, drawings and etchings – and fashioned them into a wholly new approach to art history. The result is the longest and most sophisticated kinestasis film ever made. Unlike Dan McLaughlin’s Art, which allows only one-twelfth of a second per image, Gallery is an intricate visual and chronological mosaic where the differently paced sequences seem to flow together.
