A rumination on desire, the construction of sexual fantasy, obsession, and the yearning for connection – physical and emotional. The film examines the allure of the younger man and the pursuit of the idealized other, its rewards and pitfalls. Wallin indulges in his fantasy as he proceeds to deconstruct it, exploring the relationship between subject and object, artist and model – who is in control, who holds the power? Erotic, playful, perhaps disturbing, many questions are raised, few are answered.
Artistically, Black Sheep Boy has links to experimental classics such as Jean Genets Un Chant DAmour and Kenneth Angers Fireworks but addresses the philosophical and psychological implications of desire more directly – Daniel Mangin -Wilde
