The image of a swinging mirror, a 15 second pan from right to left following Luis whose eyes look into the camera lens. Subsequently this 15 second original filming is stretched, frozen, reversed, and negative printed on the optical printer. The intention was thus to repeat and slow down by rhythmic printing etc. the relationship between the vertical planes of the filming situation, i.e. the film plane in the camera, the suggestion of the retinal ‘plane’, the foreground plane and mirror reflection, the background plane and subject and also the duplicated film planes (negative, framing factors) in the optical printing machine. – S.C.
