Commissioned by Tintype Gallery, London.
Inspired by the gallery’s location between beauty salon and taxidermy shop, conversations with a psychiatric nurse, and a description of a photo of an Egyptian belly dancer, this flickering film of still images makes connections between | fish, fur and fingernails. | The appearance of hands moving photos, and stroking fish tanks re-enforces an embodied sense of touch both of the image surface and content. The film deliberately evokes and ruptures the smoothness of image surface, puncturing editing continuity expected in filmic convention. A text-based commentary further disrupts the flow of images bringing a loose narrative and referring to an unseen photograph.
