Alexander Schellow's Still Lives, depict a shimmering nocturnal world, populated by anonymous bodies whose presence we sense through the moonlit aura of a ghostly electric fluorescence. By capturing the moment between stillness and life, Schellow's animated drawings allow us to see this nether world, as one mark nervously shifts into another, as an alien and mournful space. Alexander Schellow recently exhibited work at Steirischer Herbst Gallery, Graz, The Stuttgart Kunstmuseum, Centre Pompidou, Thessaloniki Biennale and at Ute Parduhn Gallery, Dsseldorf. He also recently completed the book work Storyboard published by Merz Academy and Edition Solitude in 2007. He currently lives in Berlin and teaches at the Metropolitan University, London. First Edition of 50 copies Filmarmalade is an artists' run project established to publish on DVD selected artists' films and video works, so as to encourage a wider access to the moving image and to allow a greater understanding, through specially commissioned interviews of how each artist situates their work, in relation to the history of art and contemporary fine art practice.
