6:30pm – 8:30pm
The Showroom

LUX writer in residence Ed Webb-Ingall will present a screening and discussion event that follows on from his writing and research on the history and practice of community video in London between 1968 and 1981. Including work by Fantasy Factory and Liberation Films. He will be joined by acclaimed writer Margaret Dickinson author of Rogue Reels: Oppositional Film in Britain 1945-1990. They will discuss what it means to work with this material from the 1970s now, seeking to draw relationships or parallel lines of inquiry from then to now.
The screening takes place during a week of events at The Showroom that are the culmination of the end of year one of Ed Webb-Ingall’s two year Communal Knowledge project. Titled People Make Videos: UK Community Video from the 1970s now, the project has involved screening archival videos to relevant groups from The Showroom’s neighbourhood, who then work together to create new videos, enacting techniques and approaches carried out in the production of the original projects in 1970s.
