Imogen Stidworthy and Michael Curran – Closing/close by

A DVD and artists' book developed from material originally created for the installation Closing/ close by: an arresting and evocative meditation on the power of cinema and storytelling.

In the installation, Michael Curran and Imogen Stidworthy's voices carried into an adjoining space housing a large-scale projection of a looping film sequence shot in the deserted Maryon Park, London. Used as a location in Antonioni's Blow-Up, this space was aptly described by writer Iain Sinclair as a seductive secret theatre. Echoing with the sound of wind and birds, it evoked a sense of anticipation and unease as well as seeming symbolic of the remembered landscape that the story-tellers have perhaps left behind.
