We are pleased to showcase Claudia Hart’s 2012 augmented reality work Nue Morte as part of OUT of TOUCH Part 3.
Claudia Hart’s Nue Morte (2012) is a fine artisanal porcelain dish on which an enigmatic naked sleeping odalisque is viewed through the artist’s augmented-reality software. This platter was intended to be a prop for a live performance in which six gender-ambiguous Alice-in-Wonderlands perform synchronized eating for an audience dining on tiny birds and giant mushrooms. Nue Morte is a virtual grotesquerie in which imaginary cockroaches run randomly amok. In a world dipping into the grotesque on many heretofore unimaginable planes, our disturbing reality in the year 2020, Hart’s animated erotica portrays a fantastical beauty, untouchable, yet unsettling and surreal.
To view Nue Morte, download the BlippAr free app at blippar.com/the-blippar-app on mobile devices. Launch the app and point the camera at the circular graphic in the video to activate the AR animation.
Nue Morte by Claudia Hart is part of OUT of TOUCH Part 3, a series of events and performances evolved to reinvent the new vocabulary of touch in the post-touch world. Through a constellation of femme-focused dialogues, OUT of TOUCH by HERVISIONS probes ways in which screen-based dialogues remediate the lack of touching in the absence of physical connection.
