ICO FEDS 2017: Film Exhibition, Distribution & Sales Trainee Scheme

This year, LUX is participating in the Independent Cinema Office (ICO)’s FEDS scheme: a programme offering eight-month long paid traineeships at top film exhibition and distribution companies, as well as mentoring and expert industry advice.

This scheme is specifically designed to redress the imbalances in representation in the film industry, and will prioritise applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) people and those who consider themselves to be disabled, both of which are under-represented groups in the film industry.

Placements will commence on 6 March 2017 – 27 October 2017, and are available at five participating organisations across the UK: Barbican, London, where the selected trainee will be based in the Barbican Cinema department, and learn about creating cinema programmes, co-coordinating film festivals and seasons; Flatpack Film Festival, Birmingham, where the selected trainee will assist with the 2017 Film Festival and learn about event programming, delivery, and technical production; Queen’s Film Theatre (QFT), Belfast, where the selected trainee will be based in the cinema’s marketing department and focus on developing core skills and knowledge of running and administering a venue; Showroom Workstation, Sheffield, where the selected trainee will be based within the Programming and Audience Development department, and offered the chance to programme films, and coordinate events.

At LUX, London, the trainee will learn how film distribution works through fulfilling distribution orders, capturing and encoding works from and to a variety of formats, coordinating festival submissions and film transport. There will also be an opportunity to learn about marketing and preparing materials for new works, and the sensitivities and specificities of distributing and exhibiting moving image artworks.
