NewWorkUK is presenting Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard: True Stories at the Whitechapel Gallery on Thursday 10th February at 7pm.
Over the past decade, artists Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard have returned several times to filming ‘talking heads’. The artists will talk to Mike Sperlinger (LUX) about their fascination with this style of narrative filmmaking, in an event interspersed with screenings of their own work and works that have been an influence. Watching the lives of others discussed on screen is a fixation of our age, witnessing other people’s thoughts and emotions touches on our own attitudes and experience.
But these films talk of much more than their apparent subject matter, pointing beyond the surface of the screen to create compelling moving-image portraits of the contributors and, ultimately, the artists themselves. As well as previewing excerpts from their new film about the music of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, the event will also feature Forsyth & Pollard’s Great North Run Moving Image Commission ‘Run For Me’ and excerpts from their ongoing series of work talking to people about mixtapes they’ve made for and received from their lovers.
The screening starts at 7pm. Click here for more information.
