Application Deadline: Wednesday, 15th February 2017

A new residency for artists based in Germany and working with moving image to to be undertaken in London. The residency is offered by the Goethe-Institut London, the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, promoting the study of German abroad and encouraging international cultural exchange worldwide, and LUX, the UK agency for the support and promotion of artists’ working with the moving image in London, UK.

The Goethe at LUX Residency programme offers the resident artist a comparably generous stipend and a well-equipped setting for working and living, including the accommodation of partners or family, if desired.

It will be jointly run by LUX and the Goethe-Institut London, two well-established cultural institutions with invaluable local and international expertise, providing contacts, addressing individual needs, and creating a bespoke residency experience in London. The programme is financially secured by the Goethe-Institut and LUX and is organised by dedicated staff from both institutions, who will bring in their cultural expertise and local knowledge.

The specific context for this residency will be LUX’s international collection of artists’ moving image works, its location and its networks and working practices. Over the period of the residency the artist will be supported to research and develop new work with the professional, practical and curatorial support of LUX staff in London and Glasgow. The residency will primarily be based in LUX’s building in Waterlow Park, North London but the artist will have an opportunity to visit and work with LUX Scotland based at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Glasgow. During the course of the residency LUX and the Goethe-Institut will work with the resident artist to develop a public events programme around their research, both to showcase their work in London and Glasgow and give opportunities for interactions with the public and other artists. The programme may take the form of screenings, talks, workshops and performances both at LUX and at the Goethe-Institut.
