“T.M. doesn’t trust that his documentary material can be more than mere surface reflection. He investigates it and with it, himself. His experiences of going out-doors are experiences of being sucked in by this outside: his body is threatened to be lost in the thick undergrowth of an artificially constructed nature or the bleak expanses of landscapes. In the confines of a room it is easier to give body/image to oneself, but here too this incarnation is threatened: it is impossible to fix reality for long. Appearances are transient. The only constant of the self is its ‘flickering structure’. – Lilli Kamer Journal Film; Nov/Dec 1987.
