In 1978 I was so shy I could never have got up and given a speech in front of people. So when I was asked to be Best Man at a friend’s wedding this was my solution.
The conceit of the piece was based on the ‘live’ transmissions from absent friends used in TV’s ‘This Is Your Life’ programme.
