‘The Home and the World’ was filmed at a rural residential home for young adults with support needs where I worked as a support worker for 10 years. After leaving the job, I returned there every two weeks over a year to film 100ft of 16mm film on each visit, a system that attempted to capture routines in weekly life. The film portrays ways in which time is organised around activities which nurture development. Gardening is a central activity, the film begins with an empty plant bed and ends teeming with vegetables and flowers.
