Mapping out the insidious relation between governement censorship and pornography, Vera Frenkel’s highly acclaimed sense of the ironic is in top form. The primarily graphic images (text, drawings, archival material, charts) are occasionally interspersed with footage (the sex life of bugs!) from Frenkel’s 1985 installation of the same name. Pornography and tourism are the secret regulators of subversive activity in a post-industrial world which feeds on its own contradictions.
