Vanalyne Green’s Saddle Sores charts her experience contracting a sexually transmitted disease from a cowboy. The 20-minute video includes film clips, photographs, western music, conversations with and responses from friends, and confessions both satirical but not only. Equally influenced by a love for the western, especially John Ford’s “The Searchers”, as well as feminist art, “Saddle Sores” defies the usual categories of documentary and autobiography by poking as much fun at herself as the melodramatic subject matter.
