Through a handheld long continuous take of the surface of the pond which John Ruskin built in the grounds of his house at Brantwood, Cumbria. The video explores movement and the transient qualities of changing light. It engages with representation and abstraction as the clear image of trees reflected on the water surface of the pond are intermittently disrupted as a result of the wind. The video, filmed in real time, presents the viewer with the possibility of a reflexive and phenomenological viewing experience of change, transience and visual transformation. The video represents part of an ongoing investigation into landscape film and duration and the way in which changes in light, weather and season affect out perception of space and place in film/video.This video is a single screen extract from a 2 screen installation featuring Ruskin’s Pond at Brantwood, Cumbria in contrast with Ruskin’s Pond in Ruskin Park, Denmark Hill, London. 2012, 216 minutes
