Restricted Sensation

Central Europe is still experiencing spread pubic negativity toward sexual and racial minorities. Undergoing political reforms had little to do with inherited homophobia and intolerance about otherness in general, so it was a starting point to work on this film. It is a fictional story inspired by witness of homosexuals, who have lived the Soviet period. | The main character Laimonas is sacked from his work at a theater, where he had position as Stage-manager. He is suspected to be gay. The action is taking place in Soviet Lithuania during 70’s, when homosexuality was criminalized. Article 122 of the Soviet Penal Code condemned “sexual intercourse between male partners” with a penalty of 3 years of imprisonment. For this reason Laimonas is arrested and taken to police station. An investigator, who is KGB officer, fells in love with this young detainee, even he is obliged to examine this man and prepare a case to court. | The film is not aiming to depict explicit, illegal life of gays in particular in Soviet Union. There were many restrictions at that time. The phenomenon of homosexuality can be seen as metaphor of individual freedom and artistic creativity, stretching the limits of the politically correct and what is accept as norm.
