An immersive moving image meditation honouring the friendship and creative working relationships video art pioneer Madelon Hooykaas had with the late artist Li-Yuan-chia (1929-1994), the Chinese artist, who started the LYC Museum in the North of England and Delia Derbyshire (5 May 1937 – 3 July 2001) a well known English musician and composer of electronic music, (the woman behind the Dr Who theme) that these contemporary artists Madelon Hooykaas, image and Caro C, sound have come together. Drawing from images, text and sound by Li and Delia including footage from Madelon’s own archival collection and footage from The Hubble Telescope. The basic structure of the moving image comes from the previous video work ‘Point in Time’ by Stansfield/Hooykaas. It is inspired by the Japanese concept used in Ikebana: TEN – CHI- JIN, meaning sky-earth-person. Madelon wanted to work with Caro as a contemporary composer with an electronic music specialism and an expert on the work of Delia Derbyshire. Caro C’s sensitive soundtrack uses piano, prepared piano (including ping pong ball in piano), found sounds, voice and electronics. But this project is not just about going into the past. It is about looking back to inform the present and influencing a new creative trajectory through collaboration. Very much in the spirit of LYC museum, Li and Delia serve as a meeting point for an exciting new collaboration between two dedicated artists recognised as innovative in their fields.
