In this video portrait of three pre-verbal children, a close examination of their movement, gesture and rhythm provide the filmmaker with a grammar for describing the tremendous sophistication of non-verbal expression. Using slow motion camera, repetition and reflection, we catch glimpses of improvised and choreographed motion set against a score featuring percussion by David Lacey. In its wordless delivery, Going to the Mountain considers how music might act as speech and what other kinds of languages we might communicate with.
