To work with film first and foremost means to me to create structures, to compose. I chose fragments of material, which I construct into a particular order. Each element is and has its own structure, in turn, and out of their simultaneity develops a new one, which is more differentiated than the (its) individual components. Each depictable value is an optical and audible event, which is translated into a time limited process which in turn is defined by the very material (of film), yet containing the sum of all the motifes.
Function of film is to be a structure. On top of that it is a series of events, which on the whole will convey/form an impression to/on the spectator: beautiful or not, loud or silent, comfortable or uncomfortable. In this way, perceptions external to film blend with conceptually predefined structures. – T.M.
