After School Special appropriates, rescripts, re-edits and overdubs the 1979 film Over the Edge. Sworn transforms the original movie into a compact, semi-abstract and delirious study of the clichéd, teen rebel, genre. She uses appropriation to chart representational shifts such as displacing promise from youth and into capital venture and reframing rebellion as vandalism. Sworn’s edit pits various forms of utterance against one another in order to examine the state of being inarticulate as a cacophony of generalised speech and a poverty in modes of attendance.
