We are extremely sad to announce the death of Ian White, our dear friend and colleague, at the age of 41. He had been receiving treatment for cancer for more than a year, but for most of that time had continued to live and work as normal. We know Ian’s death will come as a shock to the many people he worked with as an artist, writer, performer, teacher and curator. His extraordinary intelligence, generosity and fierce integrity marked everything he did and touched everyone he came into contact with.

Ian had a long association with LUX. He was the cinema programmer of the old Lux Centre in Hoxton Square and, since the organisation took its current form in 2002, Ian conceived and ran many LUX events, courses and projects. In particular, since 2007 he was the organiser and the inspirational teacher of LUX’s Associate Artist Programme, a postgraduate programme he helped to devise, and whose experimental approach to teaching and group learning he decisively shaped.

All the staff of LUX offer their heartfelt condolences to Ian’s family and friends.
