—————————————————————————
Stephen Dwoskin, as film tutor, helped put the Royal College of Art at the centre of radical film culture in the 1970s. His films and those of his students continue to provide inspiration today. This event celebrates the legacy of the ’70s and puts it in dialogue with artists of the present.
The first part of Film School Portrait consists of a programme of short films by eight filmmakers who were Dwoskin’s students and collaborators– Jill Daniels, Mary Dickinson, Anthea Kennedy, Clive Myer, Roger Ollerhead, Thaddeus O’Sullivan, Ian Owles, Robina Rose – followed by an on-stage conversation with the filmmakers.
In the evening, Tai Shani will introduce a short programme of Dwoskin’s films.
The event will end with a performative film by artist Philomène Hoël, ‘Out of One’s Cinema: Stephen Dwoskin, Collective Viewing 4’. (This performance contains flashing that could affect those with photosensitive epilepsy.)
Film School Portrait is an occasional event from the AHRC-funded Dwoskin Project at the University of Reading.
