Janie Geiser

Janie Geiser is an experimental filmmaker/theater artist, who is known for her elliptical narratives, sublime use of superimpositon, and rich approach to collage. “Geiser gives voice to the reaches of the unconscious, pointing to the abandoned splendor that exists prior to the rules of society and language.” (-Holly Willis).
Geiser’s films are screened at numerous international museums, including the Whitney, Guggenheim, and Museum of Modern Art, and festivals such as the Rotterdam, Toronto, Hong Kong, and NY Film Festival. Her film The Red Book was selected for the U.S.National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, and her film The Fourth Watch was cited as one of the top ten experimental films of the last decade in Film Comment. Geiser is an Obie award-winning pioneer in the renaissance of experimental puppet theater; she creates innovative, hypnotic works that integrate performing objects with performers and film which have toured the US and abroad.
