An attempt to explore the (apparent) polarities that exist between negative/positive and upright/inverted. Owing to the choice of the original image, which is neutral in density and partly reflective, these extremes become confused, and the eye is not sure whether it is observing a true picture, or a mixture of inverted negative etc...
All the exposure changes were made 'in camera' and the straight 100 ft of camera negative is shown four times in the following combinations: Positive/ upright, Positive/inverted, Negative/upright, Negative/inverted... But not necessarily in that order. - D.C.
